The Nfl Pro Bowl: upgade it or get rid of it

If you’re a true football fan then what you saw this past week shocked you and nearly made you sick to you stomach. If you’re not a football fan then let me clue you in…it was the Pro Bowl. Yes! The NFL’s Pro Bowl that was once regarded as the best versus the best turned out to be less than a soap opera.

Watching the Pro Bowl was the only time we could see all of our stars on the field, at one time, and fighting to truly see who was the best. Many of us who have lived through the 80’s and 90’s saw these titans crush one another for bragging rights and it was amazing. This Pro Bowl era sucks in comparison.

In this Pro Bowl era, we see things like intentional penalties and lack of effort. We also see players playing positions they’ve never played in the NFL and what appeared to be two hand touch football (A disgrace).

There has been statements made by players that they don’t “want to get hurt” or “they just want the time to rest,” but according to the NFL, the winners get $80,000 each and the losers get $40,000 each. These players are getting paid too much for a two hand touch NFL-globe-trotters like show.

Should we get rid of the Pro Bowl?

I want to say yes, truly I do. The Pro Bowl is literally awful to watch, but it is an important part of American football. So no. The Pro Bowl should be here to stay. The physical implementation of the Pro Bowl is, however, up for interpretation.

The Pro Bowl could be just like the All Pro announcing with no actual game play. The voting could remain the same and instead of having this drawn out mockery of football, we can have a selection, an announcement and skills events. In fact, there could be cool skills events that really test these athletes.

Well how can we make it better?

They can make it better by raising the stakes and fattening the booty. Players who win get unique awards and win $1 million dollars a piece. Or the offense gets $20,000 per scoring run and the defense $20,000 for every stop. Something that encourages a high level a play giving the fans what they want.

What do you think?

Should the Pro Bowl be scrapped and be nothing but skills events or should it be riddled with incentives these players and fans deserve?
