Before the injury, Tua Tagovailoa was the top QB pick, but after his injury and the rise of “Joe Burrow,” things may have changed….just a bit.
A major concern is whether Tua has lost the speed, and quickness he possessed before the injury. Tua, who draws comparisons to Drew Brees, did not run often run, but when he did it was phenomenal. With the lauding of running QB’s, many GM’s are going to look at his mobility and also how well he can transfer power into his throws.
In 2018, Tua threw for 3966 yards, 43 TDs, and 6 ints.
In 2019, Tua thew for 2840 yards, 33 TDS, and 3 int before his injury.
Jalen Hurts was seen as the lone knight who left the Alabama Kingdom to find kingship somewhere else. He found that kingship with the Oklahoma Sooners. In 2019, Hurts threw for 3851 yards, 32 TDs, and 8 ints. He won various awards and was a runner up for the Heisman trophy. Hurts is not injured. Hurts also does not have the natural talent of Tua but has heart and grit. Some draft-Gurus like Mel Kiper said Hurts would be drafted around the 3-5th rounds; this is nonsense. I argued earlier in the season that Hurts could very well go in the first round (Need I mention that Hurts also had 1298 yards rushing with 20 touchdowns on the ground). Is Mel purposely watering down Hurts’ stock?
What do you think? Does a healthy Hurts go before Tua? Or would you bet on a “Healing Tua” over an already health Hurts?
