The Buffalo Bills fall to the Houston Texans (Quick take)

The Buffalo Bills faced the Houston Texans this saturday at NRG Stadium.

The Bills were the first to strike-Josh Allen with a 16 yard pass to John Brown followed by two field goals made by Stephen Hauschka.

Buffalo’s defense shutdown Deshaun Watson and the Texans to the half. After the half, however, the Texans blazed, scoring 18 unanswered points. Slowly, the Buffalo offense began to stall; Josh Allen looked rattled; play calling seemed out of sync. It became clear that the Bills would fall victim to the war of mental attrition.

Notables:

Josh Allen was 24/46, 264 yards passing, 0TDs, and 3 sacks.

Josh Allen also had 9 carries for 92 yards.

Jerry Hughes had 3 sacks.

Trent Murphy had 2 sacks.

Siran Neal had 1 sack.

Taron Johnson had 1 sack.

My Take:

The Buffalo Bills play calling was hot in the first half. There were miss directions almost every play; Daboll made the Texans look like the were trying to pour coffee in an earthquake. Just like holding a ball on a string in front of a cat, the Texans were steadily waiting to pounce but didn’t know when.

The second half:

Once Josh Allen fumbled the football the Bills fell apart. Their run defense was horrible. It didn’t matter if it was Hyde or Johnson, the Bills couldn’t stop a nose bleed.

Penalties began to mount. Josh Allen played hero ball, and was good at it too. He was getting back on his perch until a sack when he should have thrown the ball away, intentional grounding, and a boneheaded lateral haunted the Bills momentum.

The resurgence of Deshaun Watson was imminent. Deshaun Watson would not be defeated and the Bills’ defense seemed incapable able preventing his wish.

Ultimately, the Bills fell in overtime 22-19. Duke Williams proved to be a workhorse but a few dropped passed including a dropped TD pass will hurt Williams long into the Offseason. I sure wish Cole Beasley was more involved (targeted 5 times, 4 catches 44 yards).

What’s your opinion on the BIlls v. Texans game? What do you think the Bills could have done better?
