Ohio State Buckeye’s Chase Young returns to face Penn State.

DE Chase Young, 6’5, 265 pounds, is set to return this Saturday to face the Penn State Nittany Lions (9-1) . Young, recently serving a 2 game ban, is Ohio State’s most dynamic defensive player and a natural X-Factor.

Moving past the instituted ban, we’re looking forward to seeing the defensive havoc Young will wreak on the Nittany lions.

Young has progressively gotten better since a freshman.

  • 2017: 18 tackles, 3.5 sacks
  • 2019: 29 tackles, 15.5 for loss, 13.5 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles!

Prior to his ban, Young led all defensive players in sacks. Now, Young is ranked 33rd and is only 6.5 sacks behind Elvis Dumervil’s single season college sack record (20). Penn State QB Sean Clifford has also been sacked 19 times. This smells like a recipe for disaster and Young is bound to feast.

Penn State’s last loss was to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 26-31. In that game, Penn State QB Sean Clifford was 23/43, 340 yards, 1TD, and 3 interceptions.

Still, Penn State is no slouch:

  • 9-1 overall, 6-1 Big Ten Conference
  • 15th of 130 in points scored.
  • 7th of 130 in opponents scoring. (Sports-Reference.com)

My Take:

I fully expect Chase Young to be back in rhythm and putting immense pressure on Sean Clifford. Clifford, when facing pressure, hasn’t been quite on point. If Penn State doubles Young, it’ll leave opportunities for others; If Penn State adds a TE or brings a running back to meet Young, then they’d be down a player in which to generate offense. Young must be accounted for at all times. This alone will be a tasks for the Nittany Lions. I’m projecting 2 sacks and 5 tackles from the dynamic defensive player.
