Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks make the San Francisco 49ers “Imperfect”

The Seattle Seahawks (8-2) defeated the once perfect San Francisco 49ers (8-1) (Score) in an NFL game of Monday Night Football (MNF) 27 – 24.

The 49ers came straight out the gate putting 10 points on the board in the first quarter as the Seahawks were unable to get their offense started. From a spectators perspective, it looked like the game was over, but inquisitive minds knew that there was a lot of game left to play.

Scoring for the Seahawks would finally come in the second quarter, which did not come by Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett or even D. K. Metcalf but one Jadaveon Clowney. Jarran Reed forced the fumble and Clowney scooped and scored. From there, the Seahawks were steady Eddie as they closed the game out in OT 27 -24 from a 42 Yard Field goal by Myers.

Positives:

The Defense kept the Seahawks in the game:

Jarran Reed had 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and two QB hits.

Quandre Diggs had 1 interception, which he returned for 44 yards, and 1 pass deflect.

Tre Flowers had 1 sack, and 1 QB hit. (Really swarmed the ball).

Jadeveon Clowney had 1 sack, 5 QB hits, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble and 1 TD (extraordinary).

Bobby Wagner had the most combined tackles of the night (11).

Pona Ford had a QB hit and 1 fumble recovery.

These defensive stats only tell half the story. Many of these plays changed the momentum of the game and kept the Seahawks in the game.

Chris Carson had 25 carries for 89 yards and 1 TD. Carson had a costly fumble but was solid for all plays after—hoarding first downs.

D. K. Metcalf had 6 catches for 70 yards and 1 TD. Metcalf was also stripped at the 2 yard line. (Costly).

Jacob Hollister was fantastic with 8 catches for 62 yards and 1 TD. Hollister was also hoarding first downs.

Russell Wilson as always was a game changer. He was 24/34 passing for 232 yards, 1 TD and 1 Int. Wilson also ran for 53 yards on 6 carries. Once again, these stats unfortunately do not show the wizardry of Russell WIlson

Negatives:

The Seattles Seahawks were scoreless in the 1st quarter. They had a horrendous 5 fumbles and Russell WIlson threw a disastrous interception in overtime which should have sealed their fate.

Tyler Lockett has been said to be out with a leg contusion, which may possibly be a deep bruise. Head Coach Carroll states, “I think there was a lot of swelling , the contusion caused a lot of swelling right away and there’s concerns about that, so they got to make sure…” (Pete Carroll). Lockett is also said to be “Ok” by Carroll. There is no mention of him needing surgery or missing any games.

My take:

The Seahawks have pulled it together for the most part but you wouldn’t know that by watching this game. This was the sloppiest game play I’ve seen from this team this year; however, where 5 fumbles and 1 interception would spell a loss for any other team, the Seahawks proved to have the will power and talent to overcome almost the most certain of odds.

I fully expect this team to continue winning, but I don’t expect the team to recover from such sloppy gameplay again.

Thanks for listening.
