The New England Patriots have made a trade with the Atlanta Falcons for wide receiver Mohamed Sanu Sr. In the trade , per Ian Rapaport, the New England Patriots give up a second round pick for the dynamic receiver.
Sanu, the 8 year veteran, has seen and played a lot of the slot role while along side Julio Jones.
In the last 2 seasons (2017-2018), Sanu has had impressive numbers from 67 recoveries, 703 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2017 to 66 recoveries, 838 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2018. This again, all done while playing slot, and various other positions, along side phenom Julio Jones.
The Patriots love slot receivers and are looking to replicate Sanu’s 2017-2018 stats. Sanu can play underneath utilizing his above average route running skills and he’s also dangerous when feeling the defense for a soft spot in coverage.
The edition of Sanu is interesting in that he played on the Falcons’ team that lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI, 34 – 28. In that game, Sanu went mostly unnoticed only accounting for 2 recoveries for 25 yards. He was, however, targeted only 2 times.
Sanu closes the gap made by the departure of Antonio Brown and when paired with Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, and Phillip Dorset, he only makes the Patriots that more dangerous.
Not only do defenses have to contend with a still healthy and matured QB in Tom Brady but they have to deal with Bill Belichick who has new toys.
The addition of Sanu sets up the Patriots for another Super Bowl appearance
The Patriots are currently 7 – 0 . They are #1 in points scored by the team—out scoring their opponents 223 – 48 (Pro-Football-Reference.com).
Properly utilized, Sanu will help the New England Patriots score at will.
This was an exceptional move.
