Bradley Beal signs extension with Wizards

According to reports, the Washington Wizards have signed Bradley Beal to a 2-year, $72 million extension, keeping Beal in D.C. for the next three years.

“It’s a blessing, man – for one, that they even consider me a franchise player, a piece of this organization in itself,” Beal said at a news conference in Washington.

Washington reportedly was willing to offer Beal a 3-year, $111 million deal, but Beal decided to go with the 2-year option for a potential bigger pay day in a couple years.

Beal has the ability to opt-out of his deal in the summer of 2022, coinciding with his 10th year in the league – a significant milestone. At a player’s 10th year in the league, they are able to sign a deal in excess of $250 million over 5 years.

It was a no-brainer for Washington to extend Beal.

Over the past two seasons, nobody has played more minutes than Beal, being only one of five players to play in every game over that span. Beal is the only player to start every game over that span.

Last season, Beal ranked 12th in the league in scoring, posting a career-high 25.6 points per game.

Washington will again look to Beal to centerpiece a Wizards team who will be without their point guard John Wall for the season with a Achilles injury.
