After a lifeless two quarters and trailing 13-0 at halftime against the Denver Broncos, the Tennessee Titans replaced Marcus Mariota for the backup Ryan Tannehill.
Mariota was replaced in the third quarter of Sunday’s game after completing just seven passes in 18 attempts with 63 yards and two interceptions. Mariota has finished with a 9.5 passer rating.
“I don’t feel great,” Mariota said after the game. “Coach made a decision, and he’s going to make a decision that’s best for the team. I respect it, and I just try to be there for Ryan.”
Head coach Mike Vrabel would not discuss the QB situation after the game until he could talk to his coaching staff and general manager about selecting a Week 7 starter.
Sunday’s game was Mariota’s third game this season without throwing a touchdown pass. On the year, Mariota has thrown for 1,179 yards, seven touchdowns with two interceptions, and a 91.7 passer rating.
In relief, Tannehill completed 13 of 16 passes for 144 yard and an interception in the loss.
Whether it becomes a temporary or permanent solution, Mariota has struggled this season and coach Vrabel was looking for a spark in his offense.
Mariota is in the final year of his rookie contract, so if the Titans are going to potentially make a move at the quarterback position, this is the year with a loaded 2020 NFL Draft class at quarterback.
