Sorry the delay in this week’s power rankings.. Had some family in town this and wanted to spend the most time I could with them.
Without further delay, I am pleased to provide you with the Week 6 top-10 power rankings. Enjoy!
- New England Patriots (6-0): New England continued to do what they do best – win. TB12 threw for 334 yards and one interception, but rushed (yes, rushed) for not one, but two touchdowns. New York made it competitive early, but the Patriots’ defense clamped it down. The defense intercepted Giants quarterback Daniel Jones three times, recovered a fumble for a touchdown, and blocked a punt returned for a touchdown. New England easily remains the team to beat in the NFL. Trend: –
- Kansas City Chiefs (4-1): In suffering their first loss of the season, it was the first time in 26 games the Chiefs did not score at least 25 points in a game. Credit to the Colts’ defense though, they did well containing Patrick Mahomes and the offense. Mahomes did tweak his ankle in the game, so that’s some to watch for going forward. Even losing their first game, Chiefs still remain No. 2 in the rankings. Trend: –
- Seattle Seahawks (4-1): The Seahawks battled last Thursday night against the Rams and squeaked out a hard fought victory. Russell Wilson dazzled again, throwing for 268 yards and four touchdowns, making a convincing argument for league MVP. Seattle’s defense was certainly not the best, but they made the plays late to win, including some luck on the missed Rams FG attempt. Seattle is playing great football and will look to continue it next weekend against the Browns. Trend: –
- New Orleans Saints (4-1): Any remaining doubt I might have had about Teddy Bridgewater are no longer there. Bridgewater had the offense clicking all afternoon against the Buccaneers, with the score really not indicative of how much New Orleans dominated. Teddy H20 threw for 314 yards and tossed four touchdowns, with wide receiver Michael Thomas catching 11 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints defense was strong against Jameis Winston and the good passing offense of Tampa Bay, including six sacks. No Drew Brees? No problem for the Saints. Trend: +2
- Green Bay Packers (4-1): Aaron Jones was a one man wrecking crew against the Cowboys on Sunday. Jones carried the ball 19 times for 107 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. The Packers were in control of this game throughout. Although the defense allowed Dallas opportunities to get back in the game, the defense stoop tall, forcing three interceptions and collecting three sacks. Packers are playing good football and will look to keep it going this Monday against the Lions. Trend: +2
- San Francisco 49ers (4-0): Along with the Patriots, the 49ers (!!) are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the league. On the first offensive play for San Francisco, running back Matt Breida took the carry 83 yards to the house. The 49ers never looked back and absolutely dismantled the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. Nobody thought the 49ers would be 4-0 to this point in the season, but they also have not played much competition – yet. Regardless, the 49ers have beat the teams they needed to and have done it convincingly. They will be tested this week in a match-up with the Rams. Trend: +2
- Philadelphia Eagles (3-2): After a gutsy win at Lambeau Field in Week 4, the Eagles followed it up with a convincing win in Week 5 against the lifeless New York Jets. Philadelphia’s defense was suffocating all game, registering 10 (!!) sacks, two interceptions, including an interception and fumble recovery that were returned for touchdowns. With the team still dealing with a plethora of injuries, watch out for the Eagles when they start to get healthy. Trend: +2
- Los Angeles Rams (3-2): Suffering a tough loss to Seattle, the Rams are in free fall mode from the top-10 rankings. Greg Zuerlein, usually automatic, missed a late 44-yard field goal to potentially win the game for the Rams. It’s been a tough two-game stretch for the Rams, but there’s nothing to be overly concerned about, yet. The schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Rams will host the undefeated 49ers. Trend: -3
- Dallas Cowboys (3-2): Much like the Rams, the Cowboys too are also falling fast from the top-10 rankings. After starting 3-0, beating three mediocre opponents, Dallas has dropped two-straight (Saints, Packers) against potential playoff teams. The Cowboys offense has looked flat the last two game, in part to the level of competition. Many believed this could have been Dallas’ year, but have they fooled us again? Trend: =5
- Buffalo Bills (4-1): It’s taken me awhile, but the Bills have finally made the top-10 rankings. If you take away the game against the Patriots, the Bills have played extremely good football. Their offense is still figuring it out, but it’s not a problem when you have a really good defense that nobody is taking about. Enjoy the bye week, Bills fans! Trend: UR
