Alabama Crimson Tide “Holy Tua”

Yesterday–The Alabama Crimson Tide faced the Ole Miss Rebels in what would be an amazing record setting day for Tua Tagovailoa. During the season, Tua has been creeping toward breaking Gary Hollingsworth’s 5 touchdown record.

The Crimson quarterback thrashed the Rebels with 26/36 passing, 418 yards, 6 TDs, and 1 rushing TD. Oddly enough, Tua’s biggest playmaker wasn’t Jerry Jeudy but Devonta Smith who caught 274 yards, and 5 tds. Wow! Alabama sent Ole Miss to urgent care–ending the game 59-31.

Tua, who’s been averaging 4.25 touchdowns over the last four games, had yet to top Gary Hollingsworth’s single game touchdown record (5) . This, however, would change on a 3rd and 8 with a fearsome strike to Miller Forristall in the 3rd quarter.

Tall Stats

Tua Tagovailoa is now 113/148, 1718 yards, 23 td, 0 ints (Pro-football reference.com.). He is currently on pace to 5,154 yards passing and 69 touchdowns for the year. Coach Saban who wasn’t happy with defense in this game still managed to praise the young quarterback in his press conference, “Tua was good today,” (Nick Saban).

There is no clue that the Heisman is Tua’s lose. The Crimson tide are currently #1 in passing (SEC), yards per play (SEC), and touchdowns (SEC). Alabama is set to face the Tennessee Volunteers who are 1-3.

My Take

Tua has been phenomenal this season chewing of football fields and making sure his wide receivers live in the endzone. A dominating performance against the Tennessee Volunteers and the LSU tigers will seal the Heisman discussion for the Junior QB in Heisman .
