Could a 17-game NFL regular season be happening?

The National Football League has proposed the idea of an 18-game regular season, but would settle for 17 games.

The NFL Players Association has persistently resisted the idea of expanding regular season, but the union is open to the idea if an offer to the players is strong enough for them to bite.

The proposal:

The proposed idea would expand the regular season to 17 games, which includes shortening the preseason schedule.

The 17-game regular season would give the league an additional 16 neutral-site games, still allowing teams to play eight true home games and eight true road games.

With the extra 16 games, a cool idea for the NFL would be to play games in other countries and/or in non-NFL venues across the country.

The 17-game regular season, barring a tie, would ensure all teams finish with a winning and losing record for the year.

My take:

This is absolutely a win-win for the league. Nobody likes having four preseason games, so the idea of replacing a preseason game for another weekend of regular season football is something I’m all the way here for.

Also, I’d love to see the league use the additional 16 neutral-site games to play games in other countries and/or in unique non-NFL stadiums. How cool would it be to see NFL games played in Italy, Spain, Germany, etc.?

Would you be for or against the NFL expanding the regular season?
