Washington Redskins’ Jay Gruden is Officially on the “Hot Seat,” we hope.

During Monday Night Football (MNF) the Washington Redskins displayed an effort that could have been rivaled by any double AA, bottom of the bucket, high school football team.

Their disastrous effort was directly reflective of the final score with the Chicago Bears 31, and The Washington Redskins 15.

But there’s more, there was a Gruden at the helm.

Jay Gruden

Head Coach Jay Gruden, younger brother of Raiders’ Head Coach Jon Gruden, was responsible for the effort, or lack thereof, his team displayed. His team began to unravel after the 1st quarter and they had no game plan for Khalil Mack who stalked Case Keenum all night. In fact, expect Keenum to file charges on Mack for harassment and assault and battery. Mitch Trubisky, who actually looked like a quarterback, finishing the game 25/31, 231 yards, and 3 TD!

This, unfortunately, was not unforseeable when looking at Jay’s track record:

  • 2019: 0-3, 4th in NFC East (currently)
  • 2018: 7-9, 3rd in NFC East
  • 2017: 7-9, 3rd in NFC East
  • 2016: 8-7, 3rd in NFC East
  • 2015: 9-7, 1st in NFC East (lost Wild Card against (GB))

Current Stats

Redskins: 0-3, Points made: 63 (T-Giants), Points allowed: 94 (T-Giants).

How is Jay Gruden still a coach? Is the Gruden name that much of a shield? Granted, the NFC East is a tough but the Redskins have already lost to the Cowboys 31-21 (3-0), and the Philadelphia Eagles 32-27 (1-2).

My Take

I say this all the time. In fact, its all I say: “The NFL is a progression oriented league.” This means that teams should be constantly building upon season after season—setting the playoffs as the bench mark. The Redskins have remained stale and theres’ absolutely no excuse. Look for management to leave Jay Gruden behind after this years season, unless he pulls a rabbit out his you know what. But then again, Jay’s never been known to be magician. Bless this 7th most valuable franchise.
