Bucs’ Barrett ties sack record

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett recorded four sacks in Sunday’s 32-31 loss against the New York Giants, giving him eight sacks in three games, tying him with Mark Gastineau for the most sacks in a three-game span.

“He’s just wearing out left tackles,” head coach Bruce Arians said of Barrett.

Barrett signed a one-year, $5-million deal this offseason. His contract included a $250-thousand bonus for recording eight sacks and another $250-thousand for recording 10 sacks this season.

Safe to say, he’s going to be $500,000 richer.

Barrett spent the last four seasons with the Denver Broncos, recording only 14 sacks, including a disappointing three sacks just a season ago.

Barrett also added two forced fumbles in Sunday’s loss to the Giants.

My take: Barrett has been an absolute ball hawk this season for the Buccaneers and his ability to get after the opposing quarterback is a huge reason for the Buccaneers mild success on defense.

The Buccaneers struggled to put any pressure on opponent’s quarterbacks a season ago, leaving them to torch the defense and rack up points at will.

Could the Bucs have found another diamond in the rough linebacker they have come accustomed to finding?? Possibly.
