New York Jets: AwFul

The football is hiked. Baker Mayfield is upright and heaves it up to the sky after coming out of his drop steps; Odell Beckham extends one had going towards the side line….caught! The Browns complete a 33 yard catch and grab on the New York Jets.

The Struggle.

The Jets headed by Head Coach Adam Gase are struggling to find a rhythm this season (0-2). Currently, the team is on its 3rd quarterback after losing Sam Darnold to Mono and Trevor Siemian to a lower ankle injury. The Jets are ranked 3rd in the AFC East with 485 total yards, ranked 30th in points and 31st in yards. This is a far cry from their division leader and the defending champion the New England Patriots who have 846 total yards, ranked 2nd in points and 5th in yards (Pro-Football-reference.com).

Enter Luke Falk

Who is Luke Falk? Falk, a second year quarterback, was the third string quarterback of the New York Jets. Standing 6’4 and weighing 215 pounds, Falk was 20/25, 198 yards, and 7.9 yards per attempt for an 80.0% competition rate against the Browns (Pro-Football-Reference.com.).

Not bad young fella.

However, the Jets need to reassert their run game, and running Le’Veon Bell 30-40 times a game without blocking for him will do you no good. Really, IMO, Adam Gase is still in the league by the skin of his teeth at 23-27. (.460 coaching record). Still, the Jets can nurture Falk who has the potential of facilitating a .500 season. Will the Jets reach the playoffs? No but they can hold on to third and rebuild for the next year.
